Keumok Heo

The Music Committee is thrilled to announce our new Music Director and Organist, Keumok Heo.  Keumok begins work with us the week of August 25th, and will be playing the organ and piano beginning with our August 31 service.  Keumok was selected from a field of several outstanding candidates, and we are pleased to welcome her to our church family.

Keumok, a native of Korea, began taking piano lessons at the age of 6 and has served as music director and accompanist for religious congregations since she was 11 years old.

She has earned advanced music degrees from several universities, including a master’s degree in composition from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. She also studied at Robert Schumann Musikhochschule, Duesseldorf, Germany where she received a Diplom (the equivalent of a masters degree) in composition and a minor in piano. Additionally, she graduated from Yon Sei University, Seoul, Korea, with a bachelor's degree in composition and a minor in piano. She also holds two certificates (Service Playing Certificate and Associate) awarded by the American Guild of Organists.

Her compositions have been performed in Germany, Asia and the United States and have been featured in several international music festivals. Her pieces for violin and piano have been used as required pieces for an international competition, Sejong Music Competition. Her work has been published in written scores and on CD as well.

She has been also active as educator and organizer. She has taught piano, theory and composition up to the university level and organized several international concerts.

Beside her music career, she loves to run and completed the Chicago Marathon,Chicago, IL and the Lake Geneva Half Marathon, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, in 2004.

Keumok resides in Glastonbury with her Husband, Richard Wong, and their daughter, Jade who just turned three years old.  She is expecting her second child in October.

Keumok is excited to begin her musical ministry with us here at the Congregational Church of East Hampton, and she extends an open invitation to all who wish to join our Senior and Bell Choirs.  “I am looking forward to working with the choir members and sharing the love and faith of God with the church members.  I also would like to continue to develop the excellent music program of the church”.
